Frequently Asked Questions

Some of the most commonly asked questions about the Payecom credit card payment gateway system have been published and answered here. If you have a question not covered in this F.A.Q. section, please feel free to Contact Us.

I have been with my gateway for just over a year. I was shocked and horrified to suddenly be landed with a much higher yearly fee for my second year with them. Does Payecom do this?
No. Payecom will not suddenly charge you more for your second or further years. We are a highly respected first class online credit card payment gateway service and we pride ourselves on maintaining industry best practices. The cost of the Payecom service is the cost of the Payecom service. View our Pricing.

I am a florist and have an EFTPOS terminal in my shop. We are building a shopping cart website to sell online. Can I use Payecom to accept credit card payments from my shopping cart on the net and I just charge them into my EFTPOS terminal? I want to be given the opportunity to not do a transaction cause we may be out of stock of some flowers. I am paying for my EFTPOS machine anyway, so are there any extra fees or charges involved?
To start with, yes, you can charge credit card payments that come to you via Payecom from your shopping cart directly into your EFTPOS machine, this is an ideal system, its easy and simple and of course needs to be allowed by your bank. And yes, if you are out of stock of a particular item you can choose not to charge the card, this saves you from having to do a reversal of the charge. About extra fees and charges - Payecom only charges a single yearly fee, that's it, nothing more.

I am in the U.K., can I use Payecom with my shopping cart?
Yes, absolutely. Payecom is non-country and non-currency dependant. As long as you have a merchant account at a bank in your home country you can use Payecom. You can be in any country of the world.

I have a payment gateway that transacts live on my site. They charge me .40c every time I accept a credit card payment. That may not seem a lot but last year I ended up paying them $320.00 which was on top of their normal monthly and yearly fees. And all this is in addition to what I pay for my merchant account at my bank. The costs are getting ridiculous. I want to know if its true you don't charge transaction and monthly reporting fees or is it just a gimmick?
Yes absolutely its true - Payecom does NOT charge credit card transaction fees and we don't charge monthly fees either. The yearly fee is the ONLY cost to you from Payecom. View our Pricing. Using your example that's $320.00 you could have kept in your pocket just on the transaction fees alone had you been with Payecom.

I don't want to go to the expense of getting an EFTPOS machine to charge my customers credit cards, what other options are there?
An EFTPOS terminal can be expensive. The most popular and least expensive is something called a manual MOTO/CardLink™ type merchant account setup. This is where your bank supplies you with an online terminal as part of your manual (MOTO) merchant account set up with them. You login to a secure online website (just like internet banking) and enter your customers credit card payments that come to you via fax machine, telephone, through normal mail or by Payecom. All banks offer this type of merchant account and they are usually priced at around $29.00 per year, plus the usual bank transaction fees. At only around $29.00 per year that blows to pieces the belief that bank merchant accounts are expensive.

I have two shopping carts in the same hosting account, both are on the one domain. Do I need a multiple license or can I get away with a single licence?
No. You do not need a multiple licence if they are in the same single domain and you operate both of them. Yes, you can use the Single Licence. However, both shopping carts need to belong to you and credit card payments received on those sites must be entered into only your merchant account at your bank.

Does Payecom return an "approved" or "decline" response code?
No. Payecom communicates directly with the merchant not the merchant account at the bank. When the merchant charges the card directly into their merchant account they will get the response then. Further, because Payecom is a manual system the merchant has the unique opportunity to check details about the buyer, their physical address etc, first before making the charge.

I have a real time payment gateway that's costing me a fortune and I'm going broke trying to handle the 'charge backs'. I send out stuff and later I have to pay the money back because the original charge was a fraud one. How is your system different?
Payecom is very different. The Payecom system puts the order and payment details in front of you in exactly the same way as when someone pays you by fax, telephone or by normal mail, so you can thoroughly check it first before you charge the card. You are in control. You can check the name, email, phone, the physical address, you can check quite a few things and if something doesn't look right you can choose to further investigate it and not the charge the card. We believe it is even more secure than a "card present" situation because you have a great deal more information about the customer to check before you decide to charge the card.

I have a bank account, can I use that instead of a merchant account?
No. You will need a valid merchant account with a bank. It is the merchant account that actually settles the charge against your customer's card, not the gateway. Gateways are secure communicators.

I do about 70 credit card transactions per day, I currently have a real time gateway but I like the sound of the security advantages of Payecom. Would Payecom be OK for me?
Not really. We would not recommend Payecom for high transaction volume merchants. Manually charging 70 or so credit card transactions per day into your merchant account would be a physically demanding task for anyone. A real time gateway offers automation but then again automation in transacting "live" means you can't check the order first before its charged. You will need to weigh it up carefully.

I have an osCommerce shopping cart website, do you have a payment module that can integrate Payecom into osCommerce?
Yes. Please email us with your Payecom ID and we will send it to you. If you have trouble in uploading it, we'll also do this for you free of charge.

I've got a real time gateway and I have set it up to do it manually too. I can check the card and the order first before I charge it just like your Payecom thing, so your system is no big deal cause my real time system does the same.
How are you retrieving your customer's credit card details? Is it P.C.I (Payment Card Industry) compliant? You will want to make sure you are capturing credit card data by an approved method. But lets put that aside. So, you are using your 'real time' system in exactly the same way as a merchant would with their Payecom system. That's great, except for.... you have to pay for an SSL cert and a dedicated IP - a Payecom merchant pays nothing, you have to pay a significantly higher yearly fee - a Payecom merchant pays amongst the lowest yearly fees for a gateway in the world, and you even have to pay your real time gateway every single time you do a credit card transaction - a Payecom merchant pays nothing, credit card transaction are FREE with Payecom. If you are using your real time gateway to emulate the safer and less costly Payecom system then forgive me for throwing a question back at you, why would you choose to pay all those extra fees and charges when you simply don't need to?

We are a small accommodation venue (12 units), I need a system to accept credit card deposit payments online but not charge them. Can I do this with Payecom?
Yes, absolutely. You can accept a credit card charge authorisation online and not charge it until you decide to. You are required to clearly state on your website that you are "holding" their authorisation to charge their credit card and further state under what circumstances you will be going ahead with the charge - for example, if they don't turn up. For all accommodation venues Payecom places an "I agree to" button on your Payecom payment page which ensures the credit card paying customer fully understands and agrees to your specific charging terms. They will not be able to make payment unless they agree.

Can I have my payment and receipt pages in French please?
Yes. Payecom allows merchants to customise their secure credit card payment gateway system. You can write it in any language you choose.

I don't understand how Payecom can accept all currencies, can you explain this please?
Yes. Lets say you are here in Australia and go on a holiday to the U.S. You will be buying items when you are in the U.S. and paying for it with your Australian credit card at U.S. prices. When you get home and receive your statement the amount you paid in USD will show up as the appropriate converted amount in Australian dollars. Exactly the same happens when someone pays you through Payecom.
So, lets say you are an online merchant in Australia with an Australian bank merchant account and someone from the U.S. purchases something on your website and pays using their U.S. credit card. They will be paying you the amount quoted on your website or shopping cart in your currency, because your merchant account at your bank will charge the card in Australian Dollars, i.e., your home currency. Therefore the amount in USD your customer pays is automatically determined when the card is settled against and will appear on their statement as whatever this amount is in USD. It is a Payecom condition of service that you clearly show the currency you are charging your customers credit card. If you envisage handling overseas payments you should explain on your website or shopping cart that currency conversion will happen automatically and is performed by your banks merchant facility systems, just as we have done ourselves on our Pricing page.

Using a Visa credit card, Master Card, American Express, etc, you are not limited to only using it in your own country, they are true international payment systems, however, our advice is to always confirm things with your merchant accout facility provider (bank) regardless.

We are webdevelopers and would like to develop a process that takes the data Payecom collects from customers so it can be delivered securely to our database for safe keeping. Is this Possible please?
No. The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (P.C.I. DSS) have strict rules on the way in which credit card details are to be handled. The protocols and security provisioning that needs to be in place are both complex and exact. One of the advantages of the Payecom system for credit card paying customers is that it does not permanently store credit card or transaction data on its servers. This places Payecom is a unique category of being one of the world's safest internet payment gateways - this would not be the case if we delivered data to different databases for permanent storing.

I have a Zen Cart shopping cart, how easy will it be for me to integrate Payecom into my shopping site and will I need to purchase anything more above the price quoted?
We have a Zen Cart payment module developed. Please send us your Payecom ID and we will send it to you. The module files come with simple instructions. If you have any trouble Payecom techs can do the install for you free of charge. There is nothing further to pay Payecom, the price quoted on this website is the full and only price you pay for the Payecom credit card payment gateway service.

I have a website and shopping cart system all bundled into one easy online website building program. I am paying $49 per month just for the credit card gateway thing attached as well as being hit with another cost every time I do a transaction. They insisted on supplying the gateway for me. I have asked them to integrate Payecom into my cart for me but they won't. Can you do it for me?
Payecom represents a total shift away from huge fees and charges. You don't pay many of the fees and charges you have to pay with the system you describe. Therefore please understand that some providers will not be overly motivated to integrate a payment gateway that effectively prevents them from charging you extra fees and charges. You may need to move to another system.
For the worlds most popular shopping cart programs, osCommerce and Zen Cart, it was a different story. Their respective world user communities welcomed the Payecom system from the start. osCommerce and Zen Cart users appear very keen to investigate any advancement that gives them the advantage - in security, ease or operation and of course lowering costs. Payecom is a strong supporter of numerous shopping cart communities.

The bank says you are not an approved third party gateway processor, what does this mean?
Payecom is NOT a payment gateway processor, therefore we can not and will never be listed as one by your bank because that's not what we are or do. Payecom is a communication system that transports data directly from customer to merchant in much the same way as a fax machine or telephone. You will note that your bank doesn't list any particular brand of fax machine or telephone system either.

If I get your service and change my mind can I get a refund?
Payecom shall refund for services cancelled within the first 30 days only. There is a $154.00AU$ cancellation fee which is retained from your paid amount. Therefore, you will be refunded the full amount less the cancellation fee should cancellation be requested within the first 30 days. Beyond this point there are strictly no refunds given. This is explained in our Terms Of Service Agreement and our merchants Refund Policy both of which you must agree to during the sign up process.
It must be understood that Payecom creates a unique secure gateway merchant account for each individual merchant. This includes a unique secure directory, payment page, receipt page, unique key and associated exclusive secure systems for your account. There are considerable costs involved.
Therefore, in the event of you cancelling the service within 30 days you accept the total amount of your refund will be your initial amount paid by you to Payecom for your Payecom service less the Payecom cancellation fee.

In my country I am having trouble finding a bank that does a merchant account I can use with Payecom. They say it can't be done.
More than likely, this is the bank not understanding what you are after. Almost every country in the world has fax, telephone and mail order merchants who accept credit cards. When a merchant receives an order and credit card payment by fax, phone or through the mail the merchant manually charges the card into their merchant account in order to charge the card. Banks refer to this specific merchant account type as "MOTO" (Mail Order Telephone Order). It allows the merchant to charge credit cards manually directly into their merchant account. This is what you need with Payecom and the good news is that these manual types of merchant accounts can be amongst the least expensive, depending on which bank you talk to of course.
